Corps Member Dies In Kwara NYSC

She reportedly suffered a bone fraction during the morning drill on April 23 after which she was rushed to the camp clinic.

A corps member has been reported dead at the Kwara orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, which is ongoing at Yikpata, Edu Local government ‎area of the state.

The corps member identified as Miss Eva Iche Amadi, was a graduate of Oil & Gas, University of Port-Harcourt.

She reportedly suffered a bone fraction during the morning drill on April 23 after which she was rushed to the camp clinic.

According to a corps member who spoke to Sahara Reporters on the condition of anonymity, Amadi died due to lack of adequate medical facility at the camp on Thursday.

The source said, “She suffered a fracture during the Man ‘O’ War drill and she was rushed to the clinic here on camp, but there was no medical facility.

No X-Ray Machine, no drugs, nothing was there. She had to buy bandages with her own money. There was no doctor, it was the medical students here that were stationed at the clinic.”

The source stated that the distance of a hospital to the camp is part of what contributed to the unfortunate event.

“Can you imagine that the nearest hospital to this place is about 2 hours drive on high speed? We need major facilities here. Nigerian government will force us here to come and suffer and die in poor conditions,” the source said.

Will Pay My N4.5M Tithe To The Church – BBNaija Winner, Miracle Reveals

After three months of drama, suspense and intrigue, reality TV show, Big Brother Naija: Double Wahala came to an end last Sunday with young and dashing pilot, Miracle Ikechukwu Igbokwe emerging as the winner. He smiled home with N25 million cash, a brand new SUV and other prizes totaling N45 million.

However, being a good Christian, Miracle has vowed to pay his tithe to the last kobo. He made this pledge on Monday afternoon, shortly before boarding en-route Nigeria, at the OR Thambo International Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa. Have a good read.

How are you feeling now?

I’m feeling like a flyboy. I really appreciate you all because it’s your love that got me this (N45 million) prize.

What do you think won you the prize?

I will say it’s the grace of God.

As a Christian, are you going to pay your tithe from the money you won?

To me, it’s always God first. He has blessed me and I have to show that I appreciate. Yes, definitely, I’ll pay my tithe.

What are you planning to do with the money?

Right now, I think it’s just time for me to relax and think about what exactly I want to do with the money.

How long is it going to take you to start something with the money?

I have no idea because I don’t even know what’s happening right now. It’s like I’m in a dreamland. I’ve been indoors for three months. I need to get back to reality to know what’s happening outside and make my decision.

Who are the people you are going to miss?

I’m not going to miss anybody because all of us will still be together in Nigeria, but I will miss the Saturday parties we used to have in the house.

2019: Why my mechanic wants to be President – Reuben Abati

Erstwhile Special Adviser to the president, Goodluck Jonathan, on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, has posited that the reason former CBN deputy governor, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, Fela Durotoye, Omoyele Sowore and other new breed politicians now feel they are good enough to be Nigeria’s president is as a result of the manner the exalted office “seems to have been mishandled and demystified.”

He argued that the increasing political consciousness in the country; the anxiety and frustration of the citizenry were among factors that made ordinary Nigerians like his mechanic aspire to run for the highest office in the country.

In an article entitled, ‘2019: Nigeria’s emerging political leaders’ published yesterday, the public affairs analyst revealed how his car mechanic approached him to announce the mechanic’s bid to take over Buhari’s job.

The essay reads in part, “The process of that demystification has taken different shapes and tones since the return to civilian rule in 1999, but now everything seems to have gone so bad, far beyond expectation. My mechanic couldn’t have phrased this national dilemma better. He came to see me the other day, full of excitement…

‘Oga, I have come to inform you that I am thinking of running for President.’ I thought the guy was talking about the Presidency of the Mechanics Village Association. So, I brightened up. No, he meant President of Nigeria. I removed my eyeglasses and dropped my pen.

‘President of Nigeria? How? Look, have you been drinking?’

‘Oga, you know I am a Christian. I don’t drink. I am serious oh. I have been thinking about it for a while. I can do a better job. The way these people are running Nigeria, some of us have good ideas about what can be done. If we leave this Nigeria to these politicians, they will finish all of us. Anybody that likes this country should get involved.’

”I paid attention to him.

“Oga, look at me, I can do it. We can do it. I have worked it out. By the grace of God, I will be the next President of Nigeria.”

“I had known this mechanic for a while, but I never suspected he had very tall ambitions. I had not yet given him my honest opinion; he had already conscripted me. “We can do it”. We? Every Nigerian politician is an optimist, and the most optimistic are often the ones who don’t even stand a chance at the polls.

“I pretended to be interested all the same; so he continued with his campaign.

‘Oga, you know me. Am I a lazy man? No. I am not.’ When people insist on answering their own questions the best you can do in the circumstance is to listen.

‘What this country needs now is a mechanic, somebody who can take a look at a vehicle that is having problems, and fix it. We mechanics do that every day. When they bring a car to you, first you diagnose. What is wrong with the car? Why is it not functioning well, and then you go straight to the problem and fix it. Why can’t people fix Nigeria? If we mechanics were to behave like politicians, this whole country will be littered with broken down vehicles. In the hands of these politicians, Nigeria is broken. E be like say Nigeria don knock engine sef. I am the man who will fix that engine.”

Noting that the number of these aspiring presidents keeps increasing every day, Abati observed that “the names of a popular Fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, and that of the legendary footballer, Kanu Nwankwo have also been mentioned as potential Presidents of Nigeria.”

Recalling a recent exchange between the minister of communication, Adebayo Shittu and Sowore, the former presidential spokesman noted however that there is the tendency “to dismiss this category of aspirants as Minister Shittu has done, in part because they do not preach the message of religion, ethnicity and money, and they do not seem to have any Godfathers who can offer them existing structures in exchange for conditions of service.”

The article ended by stating that Sowore and Durotoye are already exercising much influence among the Nigerian youth, pointing out that this is not just on social media but also across the educational institutions and the streets.

Breaking: NASS Lacks Power To Re-Order Sequence For 2019 Election – Court

ABUJA

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, held that the National Assembly lacks the power to re-order the proposed sequence for 2019 general elections.

The court, in a judgment that was delivered by Justice Ahmed Mohammed, maintained that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is the only body that is constitutionally empowered to organise, undertake and supervise elections in the country.

“I am persuaded by argument of the plaintiff that it is the sole responsibility of the 3rd defendant (INEC) to conduct elections, and further in doing so, the 3rd defendant has the power to fix dates for elections”, the court held.

It noted that the NASS commenced moves to amend the Electoral Act after INEC had already released its timetable for the 2019 elections.

The court held that action of the NASS was in clear breach of paragraph 15a of the 3rd Schedule of the 1999 constitution, as amended.

It stressed that the right that was constitutionally vested on INEC could not be removed by the NASS through its belated process to amend the Electoral Act.

Consequently, the court granted reliefs 1 to 10 that was sought by Accord Party which was the plaintiff in the matter, even as it nullified section 25 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, 2018, which sought to alter sequence for the forthcoming general elections.

It however declined to compel President Muhammadu Buhari to reject the 2018 Amended Electoral Act on the basis that the President has already withheld his assent to it.

Opinion: The Fall Of Nigerian Youths and the Rise of the Elders – By ‘Yanju Uwala

The Nigerian youths have been said to be lazy, as widely conceived by them since it was reportedly said by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held recently at London, though I don’t believe he (Buhari) said that bluntly, however from all indications of the speech, one should know he’s making a reasonable point on the characters of the average Nigerian youths, which I personally agree to be true.

However, for the sake of clarification, I will like to provide a bit of the speech, he said “We have a very young population; our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. More than 60 percent of the population is below the age of 30. A lot of them have not been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country, therefore they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare, and education free.” With this, someone should be able to know that, irrespective of facts Nigerian youths might have been clamouring for to agitate against Mr President’s comment on the youths, indeed we are lazy.

Are these not same Nigerian youths that goes about luring politicians for scraps of the Naira, are these not same youths that failed to think logically, are these not same youths that dance over the streets when some political leaders built a public toilet for the community, are these not same youths that believe that corruption is the order of the day and they will continue to indulge in it, are these not same youths that lobby for positions they don’t merit, are these not same youths kill themselves over what their political fathers do or disagree over?

Are these not same youths that same youths that refused to believe that the present day Nigeria is onto their care, are these not same youths that refused to be part of corresponding change the country needs, are these not same youths that changes age like clothes because they want to benefit from something, are these not same youths now disparaging the benefits of integrity in our value system?

A former Minister of Information, Prince Tony Momoh, has said that President Buhari’s owes no one any apology over his reported ‘lazy Nigerian youths’ comment., he said the President was right for saying a lot of Nigerian youths are sitting at home doing nothing, though they might be doing something tangible but despite that, laziness in every facet of life might be affecting them.

Personally, with an insight into Mr.President’s speech, I believe he can’t be using the whole time to analyse where our laziness fall into, exception of working to meet ends meet, because he knows the youths he’s leading, though he is leading us wrongly but we are same people to beg them for money, isn’t it? We know now…

As a student, I know what my colleagues do whenever we are having lectures, especially when it has to do with the political class lecture, where we should learn and keep learning, rather we are not interested, but we keep making jest and gisting about the issue being discussed, though not all are interested in politics, but my own belief is we learn from every opportunity we are opened to, but isn’t that a symptom of laziness? We need to unravel this mystery.

Even if the Nigerian government is going to give all youths huge amount of money to establish themselves, we would still have people that will mismanage the fund, some are already addicted to all these Betting and Baba Ijebu games, or are these not same youths that go on to scare away owners of land all in name of “Omo Onile” even after getting ‘something’ from them, how did they use the money, is it on drinks, cigarettes and other irrelevances. Yet, someone keeps saying I don’t have right to know how someone spends his or her money, I agree, but the fact remains people into these style of life is lazy.

If we are going to prove to Mr. President that were not lazy indeed in every aspect of lives, we need to push him out in the next general elections and if possible vote for the younger ones that we believe will push our dream to a higher ground. I came across a post this morning, where a friend of mine, wrote “I almost cried yesterday when my fellow youths asked me how much Omoyele Sowore gave me”. Isn’t that an example of youth laziness?

Someone came out to revolutionise our lives for us from these old men, yet we keep asking if anything might come out of his declaration tour, though I am not a supporter of Sowore, but there is a need for me to know better before I push out my support for him yet we need to know what is at stake. Nigerian youths are no longer organised, we don’t know what we are doing, we are slaves of money, and someone coming out to liberate us, we will still go against him.

Yet, we said we are not lazy, we keep saying we are hardworking and ready to liberate ourselves, but inside us, we are hinging for the rise of our elders in the political areas of life and we are not doing anything.
