COVID-19: NCDC Commends Ogun Government For Willingness To Go AN Extra Mile

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has commended the Ogun State Government for its willingness to go an extra mile at ensuring that the State was fully ready to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Director General, NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu who made this known when he visited the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, alongside the Country Director, World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr. Fiona Braka in the Governor’s country home, Iperu-Remo, said that the Centre for Disease Control is willing to work with the State Government in its quest to battle the Coronavirus pandemic. He added that the Centre believes the State deserves to benefit from some of the most stringent support that the Centre could offer.
“I think what I have seen in Ogun today and over the past few weeks in my engagement with the Commissioner is a willingness to go the extra mile. For us, the job is half done, so on behalf of the National Centre for Disease Control and the World Health Organisation, we are committed to supporting you. You have been on this journey longer than any other state in the country, so you deserve some of the most stringent support that we have,” he said.
Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, who also noted that it was a bit difficult to put a stop to social gathering because the country is a social country, urged the the State Government to communicate with the people in a way that they would take ownership and responsibility for the changes in the lifestyle they will have to adopt.
“We are a social people, a social country…we love interaction, being close to each other, hugging each other, celebrating each other, our weddings, our social events, football…all these are things that define who we are and giving up on all of that for longer periods of time will come with some pain. That is really where your leadership skills will be so needed…yourself and other leaders in the State, to communicate with the people in a way that they would take ownership and responsibility for the changes in the lifestyle they will have to adopt,” he said.
In her remarks, the Country Director, World Health Organisation, Dr. Fiona Braka applauded the State Government for having the capacity that could take in more patients, adding that the WHO is impressed with the State Government.
“We are so much impressed and would like to congratulate Your Excellency and your team that has been working very hard. We could not join you for the launching of those isolation facilities…thank you for the invitation. But we are here to see what you have done. We leave with a positive note that there is capacity in Ogun State to take more patients, so congratulations, Ogun State,” she said.
In his remarks, the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abidoun disclosed that the State is fully set to tackle the pandemic, while adding that the State is set to begin the process of giving face masks to its people as soon as it receives the first batch of a million pieces.
Abiodun, while disclosing that all what the State Government had been able to do in terms of setting up isolation centres and a molecular laboratory was through self help, called on the Federal Government to come to the aid of his administration, so that more could be acheived.

COVID 19: Unprofessional conduct at Gudu cemetery

The Health and Human Services Secretariat of the FCT Administration has noted with concern the video trending on social media, showing a man pulling off his Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) unprofessionally after participating in the burial of the late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Malam Abba Kyari, at the Gudu cemetery, Abuja.
The Public Health Department has since taken neccasry action.
The said PPE left over by the individual has been professionally evacuated and the entire cemetery has been decontaminated. In addition, all the individuals including the man in question that participated in the burial and were not properly kitted have been identified and are being isolated.
Necessary tests will conducted on all of them to determine their level of exposure and ensure that they do not infect other people.
The Administration has also taken steps to ensure that all future burials of victims of COVID 19 are conducted in line with protocols established by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Residents are therefore urged to remain calm and rest assured that the FCT Administration will continue to do all that is necessary to curtail and eventually end the spread of the Coronavirus in the FCT.

ELFON COMMENDS BURATAI, MILITARY…you have our support

The Emerging Leaders Forum of Nigeria (ELFON) has commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai for giving a morale-boosting talk to Nigerian troops at the frontline as the final push to dislodge the remnants of Boko Haram/ISWAP  terrorists begins.
Speaking from his Owerri home this saturday morning, the national Chairman of ELFON; Hon. Godstime Chukwubuikem Samuel said Nigerian Youths are happy with the latest move by the Chief of Army staff and his men to end the existence of Boko haram insurgency in Nigeria.
Hon. Godstime said that Buratai’s appearance at the battle field to free Nigeria from shackles of the terrorists will enhance total elimination of such insurgency from the nation’s territories.
Report has it that Buratai had told informed his men that they were in the North-eastern parts of the country to carry out their solemn and righteous constitutional duties, which is to flush out criminals who have been terrorizing and killing innocent and law abiding Nigerians.
He added that officers and men of the Nigerian Army owe it a duty to save the country from the menace of terrorists, bandits and all forms of criminalities.
“We owe it a duty to the Nigerian people and to our President and Commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari, for the confidence he has reposed in us to achieve the mandate the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has given us. We owe it a duty to serve our fatherland and protect our fellow country men and women,” he said.
The COAS reminded the troops of their professional calling to defend the territorial integrity of their fatherland, which they should be proud of.
“We must also be proud of our calling as professional soldiers and patriots. Therefore, we must go all out to stop and eliminate these criminals. We must do it now. There is no better time than now,” Buratai said.
He told the troops that there was no room for the chicken-hearted as the Nigerian Army of today is for the committed, disciplined, patriotic and selfless officers and soldiers.
“There is no room for cowardice and no room for the lily-levered ones. From now on it is FORWARD EVER BACKWARD NEVER. The sacrifices of our fallen heroes must never be in vain! Nigerian Army officers and soldiers have no cause to despair as ours is a noble and patriotic cause. It is a cause we must all be proud of,” Buratai said.
The COAS charged the gallant commanders to hold firmly to their officers and men.
“You must instill confidence through your words and actions. In order to win the trust and confidence of their subordinates, commanders must never show fear or fatigue.
“If they do that, they will lose all moral authority to lead and command their men. You cannot and must not take men and equipment into battle without situating it, without putting yourself through the whole course and playing out all the likely scenarios you may encounter and diligently working out all possible options.
“We must be committed and fastidious. We must consider and work out the minutest details, factors and all possible outcomes in all our operations,” he said.
The ELFON leader also commended the military intelligence unit for doing so well in providing troops with best informative approach to winning the war.
Buratai while addressing his men at the frontline, reminded the commanders that as leaders their focus must always be for the Nigerian Army.
“We must think out of the box and beyond the box. I charge you all to move out and bring this war to a positive end! Victory is from God Alone!
“God bless our gallant troops participating in our various operations, God bless the Nigerian Army and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he added.
Hon. Godstime has assured the Chief of Army staff of total support from Nigerian Youths, promising that the members of ELFON will always pray for him and his troop while supporting them in any other endeavor.
He urged all Nigerians to pray for the Nigerian Army and support them with lofty information where necessary for the good and safety of us all.

How I bought #200 whistle at the rate of #1000 – Seun Odunlami

Due to the announcement of total lockdown in Ogun State, which won’t allow movement as from tommorow – I went to get one or two things which include whistle and other things because of security threats we’ve been facing in almost every Community in Ogun State.
I called a close big brother around 12noon to inquire about the price of a whistle at the market, the person said it’s #500 because people are rushing to get whistle.
Around 1:50pm this afternoon, I bought this whistle which is usually sold at #200 at the rate of #1000.
On getting to Sapon, I bought it at 1K.
Who should we blame now?

COVID-19: OGUN MOLECULAR LAB READY

The Ogun State Government said it has purchased a molecular laboratory as part of its efforts towards flattening the curve of the Coronavirus pandemic in the Country, just as it is working on reviewing relaxation windows for people of the State during the 14-day lockdown extension recently ordered by the Federal Government.
In a statement on Wednesday, Governor Abiodun said the molecular laboratory would be unveiled during the period of this lockdown at the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Sagamu, where finishing touches are being put to its operationalisation.
The Governor had, while declaring open two Isolation Centres in the State, promised to establish a biomedical laboratory so that tests of suspected cases in the State could be done without going to Lagos, Ede or Abuja.  When unveiled, it will minimise the test turn-around time which currently is between 3-5 days and fast-track the handling of positive cases. It will also reduce the period of apprehension and anxiety for those suspected of infection and their relations.
A molecular laboratory test is essential in the checks for certain genes, proteins, or other molecules in a sample of tissue, blood, or other body fluid and central in the detection and handling of the Coronavirus.
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), there are eleven laboratories in the Country with the capacity to test for COVID-19 – located in Nigeria. Ogun will be the first State to set up its independent laboratory for the diagnosis of the Coronavirus.
Also on Tuesday, in his first official response to the national broadcast of the President, Governor Abiodun enjoined the citizens and residents of Ogun State to endure the 14-day extension of the lockdown in the State.
To strike a delicate balance of need for public safety and welfare of the citizenry, the current window of relaxation of the lockdown in the State from 7.00am to 2.00pm, the Governor said, will follow the same pattern of last week.  That is, it will still be available for this Wednesday (15th April) and Friday (17th April, 2020).
However, the Government is reviewing the current window to enable citizens and residents restock on food items and conduct essential businesses during the period of the extended lockdown announced by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.

Buhari Extends Lockdown In Lagos, Ogun, Abuja For 14 Days

The President of Federal republic of Nigeria Muhammad Buhari has extended the coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown in the federal capital territory, Lagos and Ogun States by 14 days

The president disclosed this in his broadcast to the nation on Monday.

President Buhari had ordered the restriction of movements in the affected states which are the hardest hit by the coronavirus in the country, for two weeks. The two weeks elapses today, Monday, April 13, 2020.

In his words: “With this in mind and having carefully considered the briefings and Report from the Presidential Task Force and the various options offered, it has become necessary to extend the current restriction of movement in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the FCT for another fourteen days effective from 11:59 pm on Monday, 13th of April, 2020. I am therefore once again asking you all to work with government in this fight.

“This is not a joke. It is a matter of life and death. Mosques in Makkah and Madina have been closed. The Pope celebrated Mass on an empty St. Peter’s Square. The famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris held Easter Mass with less than 10 people. India, Italy and France are in complete lockdown. Other countries are in the process of following suit. We can not be lax.

“The previously issued guidelines on exempted services shall remain,”.

Ogun PDP: Adebayo Dayo suspended over anti-party activities

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended Mr. Adebayo Dayo over anti-party activities.
The suspension was contained in a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Ogun State, Mr. Oyejide Sunkanmi.
The statement reads: “At a meeting of the Ogun State Working Committee (OGSWC) of the PDP held at the State PDP Headquarters in Abeokuta on the 26th of March, 2020, attended by officers listed in the schedule hereto with their signatures affixed, concerning allegations of anti-party activities against Engineer Adebayo Dayo (erstwhile State Chairman), it was resolved as follows:
“Notwithstanding the refusal of Engineer Adebayo Dayo to attend this meeting after being duly notified of the convening of the meeting by 2/3 of the members of the OGSWC of our great party drawn from the three (3) Senatorial districts, the PDP OGSWC hereby resolves to send its complaints of anti-party activities against Engineer Adebayo Dayo to the National Executive Committee of the party for disciplinary measures to be considered.
“Engineer Adebayo Dayo is hereby suspended for a period of one month from the date hereof in the first instance and thereafter until the National Executive Committee takes a decision regarding the allegations made by the PDP OGSWC against him.
“The State Deputy Chairman of the PDP, Mr. Samson Kayode Bamgbose, is hereby authorised to act as State Chairman till the election of and handover to new officers of the Party at State level as scheduled.”
The resolution was signed by 10 members of the 14-member State Working Committee who are more than the quorum required to pass any resolution.
The statement urged all members of the party to remain calm as efforts are ongoing to reconcile and reposition the party and return it to winning ways “but that process must be driven by credible people who enjoy the confidence of all stakeholders and not political jobbers who are after their belly.”
In another development, members of the Ogun State PDP Exco has distanced itself from a letter which was signed by Dayo debriefing Prince Ajibola Oluyede of TRLP LAW as counsel to the party in the state.
The party said Dayo had no authority of the Ogun State PDP Exco to write the said letter dated 30th March, 2020, after he had been suspended.
In a letter dated 8th April, 2020, which was signed by the Acting State Chairman, Mr. Samson Bamgbose and State Secretary, Barrister Bimbo Lanre-Balogun, the party said, “We thank you for notifying us of the letter dated 30th March, 2020 allegedly written to you by the suspended State Chairman, Engr. Adebayo Dayo and hereby reiterate that Adebayo Dayo had no authority of the Ogun State Executive Committee, Local Government Executive Committees or the Ward Executive Committees of the party to write the letter to discontinue with your services as our lawyer.
“We had already suspended Engr. Adebayo Dayo from his position as Chairman since the 26th of March, 2020 in order that we might send our complaints against him to the National Working Committee/National Executive Committee of the Party for disciplinary processes to commence against him. Perhaps the letter written to you after his suspension was part of his design to destabilize our great party.
“We therefore implore you to discountenance the said letter and continue your good work on our behalf.
“In this regard, we hereby specifically instruct that you take steps to replace Adebayo Dayo as the representative of our Executive Committee in any court action in which he has sued or been sued as our representative.”
The letter was signed by all members of the State Executive Committee, which comprises of the State Working Committee, 20 Local Government party chairmen and relevant Ward Executives across the state’s 236 wards.
