Ijagun Community honours Adebutu – Newsjaunts

Long before now, Ijagun, a community within Odogbolu Local Government area of Ogun State has been in total darkness. The need for electricity supply became so pressing that they (People in the community) had to contribute their personal funds to buy a transformer and also energize it.
On Thursday, 21st of November, 2019, the leaders and entire members of the community, called on Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu to commission the transformer. While this seems to have amazed a lot of people, a topnotch leader in the community, Chief M O Taiwo explained that it was the decision of the entire community to invite Hon. Adebutu for the commissioning due to his unquantifiable input in lightening up a huge number of communities which has prompted him to donate over two hundred transformers with his personal fund, a feat that has not been achieved by any individual in the State.
“What is happening here today is like giving honour to whom honour is due. We should not be surprised. Hon. Adebutu’s legacy will still earn him more of this. We are strongly convinced that if we had called on him for transformer, he would have donated it without delay. It was just our wish to get the transformer and invite him for commissioning.
What he has done across Ogun State in the past three years in terms of electrifying communities can’t be quantified.  We are even more pleased that he yielded to our call, this is a reflection of his gentlemanliness and humility”, Chief Taiwo said.
In his remark, Hon. Adebutu thanked the leaders and entire community members for the honour. In his bid to reciprocate the honour, Hon. Adebutu promised to refund money for the transformer to the community leaders. The whole community was thrown into wild jubilation on hearing this gesture which was appreciated by the Community Leaders and will be committed to building the Community town hall.

For the first time since the 2019 General elections, Hon. Akeem Akintayo Amosun, (FCIB, FCS, MBA) has met with stakeholders under the auspices of AK Vanguard. This is coming after a similar meeting was held between Hon. Amosun and his political caucus about a week ago.
The meeting was held yesterday Sunday November 17th, 2019 at AkCity, Kemta Idi Aba Housing Estate, Abeokuta.

He added that he was determined to actualize his dreams come 2023 under a prominent political party, while appealing for understanding of all members of the platform.
Hon. Amosun noted if he had used a prominent party during the last elections, he could have been declared winner, adding that elections in the country, in view of the current happenings in the polity, can only be won by the two leading political parties.
He declared that arrangement had been concluded to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ably led by Hon. Ladi Adebutu Kessington (LADO).

Speaking on the reason for the choice, Hon. Amosun noted that the current government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not been able to put its house in order and would not be able to deliver its electoral promises to the Nigerian people.
He cited economic hardship, insecurity, internal infightings, corruption, disregard for rule of law and mindless  rigging of elections as some of the challenges that could hamper the survival and relevance of the party against the next general elections.
Hon. Amosun assured the meeting that his decision to join the PDP would not derail him from championing the need for good governance across all levels starting from Abeokuta South Federal Constituency.
A few members of the platforms who spoke during the meeting commended the leadership style of the Convener, and charged him to work more in ensuring the success of the team at the new party level and during the coming general elections.

National Assembly okays autonomy for local governments, INEC to be in charge of Local Government elections!!!

The National Assembly on Tuesday, granted full financial and administrative autonomy to all the 774 local council authorities across Nigeria by amending section 124 of the nation’s constitution.
The section provides a consequential provision for the making of the local councils, a full third tier government without undue interference from the state governments.
The ammendment was one of the 22 others approved by the House of Representatives last week and ratified by the Senate on Tuesday.
Both chambers had through a conference committee harmonised versions of the ammendments into the constitution carried out by each of them last month.
By the development, the National Assembly had ratified all the 23 clauses and sections that had been ammended by both chambers.
The newly ammended document which would be sent to States Houses of Assembly, for approval, also approved the creation of the Office of Auditor – General of the Local Government as
well as the State Local Government Service Commission.
The section equally deleted the State
Independent Electoral Commission from the constitution thereby vesting the powers to conduct council elections on the Independent National Electoral Commission.
It however, retained the immunity clause in the constitution for the President and Governors by adopting the Senate version of the ammendments on the issue and rejected the House of Representatives version which removed the immunity clause.
The National Assembly also made provisions for Independent candidacy in future elections in Nigeria by ammending sections 65 and 106 of
the 1999 constitution!!!
