Kashamu Served Application for Garnishee Order

The Ogun State High Court sitting in Abeokuta, has received an application to grant an order against former Ogun East Senator, Buruji Kashamu,  (a Judgement Debtor) and  twelve of the  banks holding his funds/accounts, as co-respondents to the Garnishee Application.
The former Senator is indebted to Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, in the sum of N300,000 (Three Hundred Thousand), being the Costs/ judgement debt awarded against him, upon the dismissal of the libel suit that he instituted in the year 2016 against Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, (through his Counsel – Chief R. A. Oluyede).
The judgement dismissing the Suit was delivered earlier by Hon. Justice A. Akinyemi on the  2nd day of March, 2018.
In the said Suit filed against Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu
(who was represented at the trial by his Lead Counsel – Chief Edwards Ayo-odugbesan),
in Suit No – AB/297/2016, Senator Buruji Kashamu failed to prove and substantiate his claims in the original case, where he accused Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu of Spoiling his “good name and or reputation”, for defamation of Character, and other claims, wherein he also claimed the sum of N5 Billion as general and special damage.
The trial for defamation of character commenced on 20th January, 2017.  After the  former Senator gave evidence in the witness box, and several applications and 17 sittings by the court,  the claimant (Senator Buruji Kashamu)  refused to appear again before the Honourable Court, probably due to unavailability of facts to butress his case.
On the 2nd day of March 2018, after hearing and taking submissions from both the Claimant (Senator Buruji Kashamu) and the Defendant (Hon. Ladi Adebutu) Lawyers,  the Court dismissed Senator Buruji Kashamu’s case, against Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, for lacking “Diligent Prosecution” and instructed Senator Buruji Kashamu to pay the Defendant, (Hon. Ladi Adebutu) the sum of Three hundred thousand naira, as damages.
Since the judgement was delivered, Senator Buruji Kashamu is reported to have refused to pay up the said amount, which act or commission constitutes a breach of the Judgement / Order of the Court.
Consequently, Hon. Ladi Adebutu’s Legal Counsel in the said case applied for “Garnishee Orders” against Senator Kashamu and his banks, which may result in the freezing of all his bank accounts in Nigeria.
The application came up on the 19th February 2020, but the court could not sit, due to official Prison visitation by the Presiding Judge.
Reliable information has it that the matter has been adjourned to the 7th day of April, 2020.

President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned Boko Haram attack on Garkida in Adamawa State, and extended his sympathy to families of victims.

In a statement by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Sunday, the President said that no part of Nigeria would be abandoned to their fate.

He said: “These attacks on soft targets by the terrorists are obvious signs of frustration because my administration has significantly weakened Boko Haram’s military capability to invade and hold Nigerian territory unchallenged.

“Our gallant forces deserve our appreciation for repelling the attackers but they must go beyond this point. They have our full support to go after the terrorists and have them pay a huge price.

”I want to assure the country that terrorists will continue to face the combined power of our military until they give up their mistaken ways.

“These occasional and episodic attacks on poor civilians by the terrorists are mere propaganda efforts to portray them as strong in order to fool the public into believing that they haven’t been militarily weekend by our gallant troops.”

President Buhari said since the inception of his administration, Boko Haram’s ability to invade and occupy Nigerian territories, let alone be able to hoist their flags had been frustrated.

President Buhari assured that in the coming weeks Nigerians would witness an aggressive campaign to rout Boko Haram once and for all.

“Security will continue to be well funded despite the competing needs of social services.

”I appeal to Nigerians to continue to support our troops in their gallant efforts to protect the citizens and secure the country,” he added.

If you must beg, beg govt not individuals, Emir Sanusi tells beggars

Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II
Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II

By Muhammad Nasir Bashir

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, on Saturday called on people who beg for alms or other forms of assistance from individuals and relatives to instead direct their begging to the government.

Sanusi made the call at the National Conference on Alarammomi (Qur’anic Teachers) organised by Centre for Qur’anic Reciters in Nigeria with the theme: “Sanitising Almajirchi In Tune With Today’s Realities”.

He urged parents to stop sending their children to Almajiri schools, stressing that children could study the Qur’an, at there schools and with the teachers in their respective communities.

The emir said that if sending children to such schools become necessary, then parents must send them with all the necessary provisions to ensure their wellbeing and welfare.

According to him, it is wrong for parents to send their children away without proper arrangements and necessary provision, as the children will end up begging for food and alms.

Sanusi, who quoted verses from the Holy Qur’an and Hadith, said whoever begs, would resurrect on the day of judgement without flesh on his face.

He, therefore, urged husbands to see it as God-given duty to feed their wives and children adequately in order for them not to resort to begging for alms and assistance from individuals or relatives.

“Begging is disallowed in Islam and if you must beg for alms beg the government not individuals or relatives.

“It is better for you to cut firewood and sell to earn a living than to beg.

“Those who beg or seek assistance from individuals will be resurrected on the day of judgement without meat/flesh on their faces.

“And if you must beg, then beg the government not individuals or relatives. This is because they should be responsible for the welfare and wellbeing of citizens.

“Individuals, relatives or neighbours can assist you as gestures of kindness and generosity, but that’s not necessary.

“So, those who are saying that begging is not prohibited in Islam are just misleading you,” Sanusi  said.

The emir, therefore, urged government at all levels on social protection programmes in order to check such menaces in society.

“Programmes like cash transfer and many more can assist in tackling these problem. So, we urge the government to sustain the cash transfer programme and come up with many more,” the emir said.

Also speaking, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, corroborated the emir, while noting that no father should send children to Almajiri school without proper and adequate provision for their wellbeing.

“For instance, in Sokoto we built over 100 schools close to Almajiri schools for such to learn at least ABCD and 1234.

“So, we must change the system in order to ensure brighter future for our children,” he said.

Abubakar also urged the participants to take what was said with all seriousness.

Abubakar also urged them to digest the issues discussed in order to come up with ways to sensitising the Almajirchi system.

The sultan said that he would join Sanusi and others in a collaboration with the centre in finding lasting solutions to the problem.

“As leaders, I urge you to critically look into what’s been discussed and later come up with a lasting solution.

“However, your solutions should be channeled to us through your leadership because the number is large, and for that it will not be possible for each and everyone of you to speak,” he said.

In his remarks, Sen. Sani Yeriman-Bakura and former governor of Zamfara state, pointed out that during his eight years as governor in the state, begging by such children was stopped.

“As governments have systems to assist farmers and traders, so we did in area of Almajiri schools.

“Nobody begged during our eight years in office in Zamfara. This is because we ensured that these children were fed adequately and that’s what stopped them begging.

“In fact, at the end of my tenure, we left 150 tonnes of food for such programmes,” he said.

Yariman-Bakura pointed out that if authorities would take their responsibilities seriously, no parent would  be willing to send their children to other places.

On his part, the Jigawa Deputy Gov. Umar Namadi, said the government was doing its best to enroll  all out of school children.

Namadi said the government’s decision to feed pupils from primary four to six under the federal government’s school feeding programme was yielding positive result.

“Jigawa government is doing its best to ensure that all out of school children in the state are enrolled.

“We’re doing this through the school feeding programme, as we feed pupils from primary four to six, while the federal government feeds pupils from primary one to three.

“So, this gesture is seriously taking out such out of school children as it immensely increases enrollment in our schools.

“Also through SUBEB, the government is doing its best to ensure the wellbeing of students of Tsangaya schools in the state.”

He added that the state government had built 400 Islamiyya schools across the state.

According to him, the government will collaborate with relevant stakeholders to sensitise them on proper Almajiri system.

45 Minutes With The Legendary Ben Olaye’s Son: “People Say My Humility Is Annoying” – Olaye Jnr

His father, Benjamin Olaye, popularly known as BENJOF (the magic feet sensation) was the producer and presenter of the then TV program ‘Beat Wave’ then in old Bendel State (now Edo and Delta States). Now starting from where his father ended and planning to take it to the next height, Bejamin Olaye Junior is a sensation. In a over 45 minutes encounter with Newsjaunts, the actor, dancer and model who is currently on set of a Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen’s new movie ‘For The Love Of Isiuwa’ in Benin, the Edo State capital, pours out his mind to reveal many things you will love to know about him. Enjoy the interview…
Let us meet you.
I am Olaye Benjamin Junior. I am an actor, dancer and a model; in fact, I am an all-round entertainer. I’m presently teaching acting at the prestigious Benin Film Academy. I am also a resource person for some international organizations and in all I’m a versatile entertainer.
At what time did you discovered you can do all these?
I will say I was born with these because; I was born into the family of the great Benjamin Olaye. I mean the popular Benjamin Olaye from the old Bendel State who is also one of the best TV series producers in Nigeria as at that time. So, I think my gifts started from the womb.
How challenging was it stepping into your father’s shoes?
I won’t lie to you, it has not been easy. But, I think he laid a good foundation for me, he brought me up in the right way especially in this business because, he has already produced a lot of stars and models like Miss Nigeria, Miss Olympic, directors, singers and a whole lot of entertainers. There are lots of them that are so popular right now. My present boss, Ambassador Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen, is also one of the persons he gave opportunities to explore and now, I’m fortunate to be a part of Lancelot’s vision of training young minds. So, I will say in all it’s been God all the way.
Did you set out to be an entertainer right from school?
They say ‘he who doesn’t plan, plans to fail’. So, I would say yes I knew what I wanted to do from day one because, I realized that I could read and write stories very well. I studied Ramson Nouah very well while I was growing up, he is my mentor in the industry. He, late Sam Loco, Peter Edochie, all inspired me in the industry. People have been calling me Ramson Nouah right from my primary school days even till now because I’m his look alike. So, I look forward to work with him.
When would you consider your breakthrough in the industry?
I’m still learning and paying my dues. I don’t want to wait for that big moment when I would say I have the fame, what i’m doing now is working for relevance to sustain my fame when I get there because I know I will get there. I don’t just want fame; I want to be a great actor. There are a lot of persons who are famous but, not great but every great person is famous. So, I’m working towards greatness and not fame.
If not entertainment what else would you have been doing?
I would have been a footballer. I love playing football and a good left footer. But my legendary late father at some point flogged football out of our body. He discouraged us from playing football because he does not want us to mix-up with the street boys but see what football has turned to now.
How would you describe your current movie location?
It’s been wonderful. You get to learn new things and it has to be everyday; working with someone like Lancelot Imasuen who is the Guvnor of Nollywood is divine. Our relationship is God’s crafted and on this set it has been an artistic exposure, a new dimension to what acting is about, new dimensions to telling a good story, to developing your inner man, new dimensions to pursuing your craft. I believed the results of this story will surely tell the efforts we are putting in it.
What are your expectations in Nollywood?
I expect Nollywood to grow more; the budgeting for movies to grow; I expect our acting to be better than just been mechanic. Talent is not enough; I think we should have workshops where veterans can teach the young ones. Let us decentralize Nollywood hubs to all the corners of Nigeria and not just Lagos State, so that we can develop young minds.
What is your unique selling point?
I think it’s my humility. Sometimes people do say my humility is annoying. It is my nature that was how I was trained.
Married?
Not yet but, I’m building a part to that already.
It’s been said most actors lose focus when married, do you share that opinion?
No, because if people like Olu Jacob and Joke Silva can do it, anyone can do it.
What do you think people don’t know about you that you want them to know?
Whao! I’m very feasible. People need to understand me beyond the screen. I might be big and larger than life on screen because that is how they want us to appear but, just jump over the fence to know me before you judge me. Read my book; I have a blank page. You can write your stories on my blank page so; get to know me by yourself.

Rerun: LADO Group boycotts rerun elections

Reports from the rerun of National Assembly Election in Ijebu-Ode/Ijebu North East/Odogbolu Federal Constituency revealed that members of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Hon. Ladi Adebutu did not participate in the rerun elections which could have resulted in the loss of the PDP candidate in the election Barr. Taiwo Shote to the APC candidate Hon. Kolapo Osunsanya.
According to a member of the Lado group who claimed anonymity said the Leaders of the Lado group had fixed Saturday, 24th January, 2020 for the group’s meeting and new year celebration in the Federal Constituency since last December.
The Lado group has been rated a strong force in Ogun East politics and even across Ogun State. This was also evident during the last Governorship elections in Ogun State when the group had an alliance with the APM in just three days to the election and the alliance had significant effect in the votes recorded for APM. The alliance came after the unfavourable court judgement against the group on the authenticity of the candidates list presented to INEC by the Lado faction of the party.
Efforts to speak with leaders of the Lado group proved abortive and to no avail as none of the Leaders was willing to talk to the press. Calls made to the Media aide of Hon. Ladi Adebutu were not answered up till the time of this report.
The rift and tussle for leadership of the PDP in Ogun State is suspected to be responsible for the disunity in the party. It is believed that the cracks in the party will be put to rest after the party congresses scheduled to hold in few months.
